This is the first in a series of (3) mysteries with Mercy Carr and Elvis, and their “adventures” in the Vermont wilderness.  The story is ever evolving, changing, realistic, and yet keeps you involved and interested to the very end as a great mystery should.  Well written, the book not only satisfies the ‘cozy mystery’ reader with a good story, but also helps the reader understand and relate to some of the challenges our returning soldiers and military working dogs deal with upon returning home from war.  Told in a straight-forward manner, without the clothing and food minutia that some mysteries of late are known to have, this is a must-read series for any traditional cozy mystery reader.
