True Crime in 19th Century Toronto

This historical fiction novel by the incomparable Atwood is based on real events, and as the ‘murderess’ shares her tale, the reader is drawn into the world of 19th century Ontario. As I read, I kept stopping to learn more about the facets of the story – Atwood’s first source Susanna Moodie, quilting patterns and their hidden meanings, and Grace Marks herself.  A great novel which inspires you to explore.
