A timely and inspiring children’s biography about resilience and fortitude
This book chronicles the life and career of Dr. Anthony Fauci from working as a child in his father’s drug store to studying medicine and eventually becoming the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. It shows how his early life prepared him for the scientific and unfortunate political challenges that he would face while trying to help our country navigate through the worst of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The author actually interviewed Dr. Fauci, and she did a very good job of conveying his lifelong love and enthusiasm for science. However, this book is more than a children’s biography. The biographical portion is told in the third person, but the rest of the book reads like a note of encouragement in his own voice, to young inquisitive minds. It provides kids with timely information about vaccine development and safety as well as “Dr. Fauci’s five tips for future scientists.” And as if this wasn’t enough, the author also includes a timeline, photos from his life, and a list of recommended reading for children who want to learn more about infectious diseases and germs.
