Eighteen year old Ryohei Arisu has no idea what to do with his life, and wishes he were somewhere - anywhere else. When he and his fellow slacker friends witness a strange fireworks display, they wake up the next morning to a desolated Tokyo in which the only way to survive is to play the nightly games. Make a mistake? You die. Lose the game? You die. Refuse to play at all? You die. With such high stakes, and no idea who is behind the games or how to escape, Arisu and his friends have to pull together all their minimal resources to stay alive for one more day. 
This is a fun (and bloody and brutal) story. The mystery of the setup, combined with the tension of seeing how the games played out, kept me glued to the pages and I ended up reading the whole volume in one sitting. Definitely a great read for anyone who enjoyed Squid Games.
