If you are interested in learning how to be helpful without making it weird...
This short book manages to be the disability history you didn't get in school and the content of conversations you didn't have in your "sensitivity" training at work in one kind place. Ableism is under-discussed, which makes it particularly difficult for nondisabled people to understand what we're doing or saying wrong, how we should behave, or how we can help. Author Emily Ladau doesn't judge you for that, and over the course of her book explains it to you with both love and honesty. Picking up works like this one is the first step, and after reading you should be ready to go into the world with both an attitude of awareness and an understanding that there is a lot more learning to do.
This book is good reading for anyone. If you are interested in improving yourself as someone who interacts with others, check this one out.
