Cozy Up to Death

A gritty cozy mystery?

Ok, I know the phrase “gritty cozy mystery” sounds like a contradiction, but I think this is the best way to describe this series, starting with Cozy Up to Death. In reviews, the author actually said that his intent was to push the boundaries of this mystery genre. The protagonist, Beauregard Smith, is a former member of a notorious fictional motorcycle gang, The Satan’s Dogs. On the surface, it appears that he is not your typical cozy mystery amateur sleuth. However, although Beau has a violent past, he comes across as a sympathetic character. After the first few chapters, I found myself rooting for him despite all the skeletons in his closet. This series has all the usual features that a fan of the genre would recognize including wacky colorful characters, and a lot of humor. Currently there are only five titles in the series. Four of them are available as digital audiobooks via Hoopla. I enjoyed them so much that I listened to all four in one month. I hope the author will write more books in this series soon.
