You’re never too old to learn!
Mary Hardway Walker was a remarkable woman in several ways, but two distinguished her among others. She was born into slavery in 1848 and believe it or not, she lived to the incredible age of 121. And if her longevity wasn’t amazing enough, after having a lifelong desire to read her Bible, she finally learned to read at age 116. These two accomplishments transformed her into somewhat of a celebrity among her peers in her retirement community as well as her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee during the last five years of her life. This picture book will warm the heart of anyone who believes in the power of reading and is especially an inspiration for those who actively promote literacy such as educators and librarians.
