It was worth the wait

If you read The Skin I’m In by Sharon G. Flake, you read the powerful story of Maleeka, a girl who had to navigate her world and feelings the best she could. There was another girl who also had decisions to make. Her name is Char. Char’s story does not begin with this book, but what happened to her could be called a cautionary tale but it’s much more a dire warning. Although this sequel is just as powerful as the first book and can be read on its own, I would suggest reading The Skin I’m in first. If you are looking for a book with emotion, characters that leave an impression, and a subject too real to dismiss, try this one. The life Char is in is an unfortunate reality for many teens. This makes the book an excellent choice for teen group discussions and those looking to help teens who are in drastic situations.  A list of research and resources is included at the end of the book. If Ms. Flake plans to write another novel in this series, I wonder what happens to Cricket and Anthony. Who are they? You’ll have to read and find out.
