I first stumbled upon Penny Reid and the Winston Brothers series while looking for a light read in between reading heavy nonfiction. Of these characters, Cletus is definitely most deserving of this own spin-off series. Reid's foray into cozy mysteries is made easier by using her already well developed characters.
Cletus (2nd oldest of the Winston Bros.) and Jennifer (the Banana Cake Queen) have navigated the perils of dating in a small town, and are now taking their time to make sure their relationship will last the test of time. But how will they be able to keep it together when it seems like someone is out to sabotage Jennifer's growing baking empire? First: someone kills the chickens that lay her eggs. Second: the farmer who sells her the milk decides to sell his cows and his farm. Third: the beekeeper who sells her the honey has his hives set on fire. And who would've suspected that a body would be found amongst the burning hives?
Written with humor and just enough suspense, this first book in the Solving for Pie series is the perfect cozy mystery to get you through.
