A salute to the military tradition of America's Native people

Throughout U.S. history, Indigenous Americans have served in the military at an extraordinarily high rate.  This thoughtful picture book honors that tradition by portraying a World War II-era Cherokee family waiting prayerfully for the safe return of a family member who is serving as a WASP (Women’s Airforce Service Pilot).

Includes an author’s note section about Millie Rexroat, a real-life WASP and member of the Oglala Lakota nation, who served during World War II as a transport pilot and flew dangerous missions towing target planes for pilots-in-training to fire upon.
