Not just another actor memoir
I have loved watching Minnie Driver act since I first saw her in Circle of Friends. In all her characters, she has this element of realness that helped to make her characters that much more relatable.
While this book does cover her acting career, it dives deeper into her life and how she became who she is. Raised between England and Barbados, Driver tells the story of her childhood. The ups and downs of being a child of divorced parents to the chance meeting at a rave that led to the beginning of her acting career. I was truly drawn into the book when she discussed the end of her mother's life: that as much as she didn't want her mom to die or wanted to give her more time, at the end we are all powerless against death. The best thing to do is embrace it and make the most of the time we have.
Like all celebrities, Minnie Driver is more than the characters she portrays. She is lucky enough to reflect upon her experiences and find herself still in one piece on the other side.
