The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song

An interesting look at an important aspect of American religious history

Over the course of U.S. history, the institution often referred to as “The Black Church” has been one of the most vital entities to emerge from the African American Experience. Throughout it, the author shows that this entity is more than just a conglomeration of seven historically independent Black Protestant Christian Denominations. Readers will learn that it has had and still has a profound impact on the religious lives and spirituality of many African Americans, regardless of organizational affiliation. Also, this book discusses how this broadly defined institution has had a substantial influence on American culture as a whole in areas such as civil rights, democracy, musical expression, and the fight for social justice.
