A Psalm for the Wild-Built

It’s the comfort of a warm cup of tea after a hard day’s work.

Centuries ago in Panga, the robots departed and humanity has left them alone ever since. Today, a solitary tea monk named Dex finds their preconceived notions of robots turned on end, as they encounter the robot Splendid Speckled Mosscap who wants to know “what do humans need?” The answer to that, of course, is near impossible to figure out, but it’s the journey that matters, not the answer.
Becky Chambers has made her niche in what could be called “comfort science fiction” and A Psalm for the Wild-Built is no different. Narrated by Em Grosland, this short novella (about four hours on audio) is like a warm cup of tea, with its utopian setting and its relatable protagonists.
