This book is the first is a series of six by Afro-futurism writer Octavia Butler. Anyanwu, a shape-shifter and healer, meets Doro, a immortal mutant with the ability to body-snatch those closest to his proximity, and breed to form a race of superhumans. I love this book because it has a strong lead protagonist and antagonist, both equally matched power, and it serves as a great introduction into the genre of Afrofuturism.
