McPherson's stand-alone mysteries have been described as "creepy cozy" and this definitely shows why.    Gothic settings are lightened with snarky humor as our heroine takes on a job  she's not qualified for in a mental hospital with more mysteries than patients, and the pacing cranks from engaging to riveting as questions about her new job and her old life collide.  I stayed up all night to find out what happened, and I wasn't disappointed!
