Can a story full of ghosts and murders be primarily about the very best parts of humanity?
The answer of an elated and resounding yes is found in Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts. It's smart, sensitive, exciting-- everything you want in a good friend. Author Kate Racculia wraps you in a warm and comforting blanket of adventure and suspense, laced with a generous helping of genuine human connection. Tuesday Mooney is the kind of main character I love to sink my teeth into, but, aside from the unwavering villain of the story, she is surrounded by a cast of equally lovable, absolutely darling friends. Every character is comfort-character material. The plot twists, thickens, comes to a satisfying conclusion. Not every mystery is solved, but if I'm being honest, I would be terribly disappointed if they had been. Tuesday is a loner. She doesn't do much of anything outside of work, and going out once in awhile with her sort-of friend, sort-of acquaintance Dex for trivia or karaoke. She prefers the empty numbness, the safety of being alone. When a filthy rich eccentric dies and sets a game afoot, it's up to her to take advantage of the opportunity to play as part of a team and finally come back to the self she abandoned half a lifetime ago. I hope I have impressed upon you the sheer wonderfulness of this book. I would recommend it to readers who like true crime but get tired of only knowing the worst of the world. You might like it if you enjoyed Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), Dead to Me (Netflix), and or read Nancy Drew when you were young. (Or recently, they're ageless)
