The Quiet Girl

A lovely film inspiring reflection.

The story unfolds in a hushed way and the period of this film is not clear at first. Yet just enough is revealed in every scene. Cáit is a young girl living in rural Ireland. Often hungry, she struggles to read and is considered odd at her school and within her large family. Her mother, overwhelmed with life decides to send Cáit to relatives for the summer in the Irish countryside. You will hear a good bit of Irish Gaelic, and you will love the beautiful Irish farmland landscape. In a stunning finish, viewers will meditate on the effect kindness can have on a child experiencing poverty. I liked it so much I decided to read the book!
