Juvenile nonfiction rocks!
I’m recommending this book, because I think this is another great example of how adults can obtain good basic information on a topic by accessing nonfiction books written for a younger audience. In this case, I wanted to learn more about the history of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). But, I didn’t want to invest a lot of time reading a 300-plus page book or a cumbersome, boring, poorly written Wikipedia page about this topic. So, I found this ebook available on Hoopla and read it instead. The NAACP was founded in 1909, by an interracial group of influential citizens, both Black and White Americans, who were concerned about addressing the rising tide of deadly racial violence against African Americans at the turn of the 20th century. The NAACP has fought for over 100 years to ensure that freedom and equal rights are extended to all Americans, regardless of race or ethnic background. This concise juvenile nonfiction book chronicles the history of the trials and triumphs of this organization in fulfilling its mission.
