An inspiring children’s biography
This children’s biography chronicles the life and work of Dr. Patricia Bath, who was an ophthalmologist and tireless advocate throughout her life for the blind and visually impaired. Born in the early 1940s, as an African American, Dr. Bath battled both racial and gender-based discrimination from her peers as she pursued her career, not only as an ophthalmologist, but also as a researcher, professor, and innovator. She is well known in the field as being the person who developed and patented the Laserphaco Probe in 1988, which was the first laser device used to remove cataracts. I really enjoyed this book because it is an inspirational story for youth, showing how education and resilience can help one prevail over life’s obstacles. I also absolutely loved the way it is illustrated.
