For the duration of Dance Fever, I am transformed. “I am no mother, I am no bride, I am king.”

This album has a lot to say about being a woman, being locked away during the COVID-19 pandemic, and about being your own worst enemy. The album is somehow both personal to Welsh and also relatable. It is self deprecating in many ways, pointing out the ways that we self sabotage ourselves. Yet it also warns others of caging us in, and reminds us (for good or for bad) the power that we actually hold. The best tracks are complex, dark, at times even haunting. They really do deliver on the dance fever title. Like the medieval dancing illness, when I listen to this I cannot stop dancing.

“Something's coming, so out of breath; I just kept spinning and I danced myself to death”.

And as always, Welsh’s vocals are flawless. It makes for a powerful listening experience.

What I really love about this album is that for the duration, I am allowed to let loose and relish in the qualities that society would say are bad of me; mania, melancholy, ruthlessness, and hunger. Once the last track fades, I return to my normal everyday life of a (relatively) well adjusted adult.
