The Diary of a Bookseller is Shaun Bythell's quirky memoir of a year in his life as the owner of The Bookshop, located in the small village of Wigtown, Scotland. It's populated with eccentric customers, unusual staff, residents and tourists. They make up the daily routine of his life and business. Each chapter is short and ends with a tally of his sales.  His unending buying trips to estates make up his life and mark the end of someone else's.  Books are heavy...not only is his ability for lifting challenged, but his vehicles capacity to carry the loads of books take a toll.  He needs to be polite but is often snarky and he wishes more customers were buyers than browsers, Amazon is often faulted. So read at your peril if you have dreams of owning a bookshop, it can be a life's work or it can be work.
