A good read for young US History enthusiasts
Anyone who knows me well, is aware that I really “geek” the US Postal Service. There are so many things to admire about it. Next to public libraries, I think it is one of the most intriguing governmental institutions in our society. The scope of its operation is amazing to me. Even in the digital age, in which we live, it is still hands down one of the most reliable and comprehensive communication systems in our county that is charged with serving everyone who lives within its borders. I could go on, but why spoil the book. I came across this title in 2023, soon after I visited the Smithsonian’s Postal Museum in Washington D.C. It includes interesting photos throughout and is an excellent read for teens and older children. For adults, I’d recommend reading How the Post Office Created America by Winifred Gallagher, which I wrote a staff pick for a while back.
