An interesting book about generational differences and their causes
Most articles that I have read about generational differences emphasize how major societal events have shaped those born and raised during a specific time period. However, this book takes an alternative approach regarding how to understand differences between generations. According to the author, shared experiences such as the Great Depression, World War II, the Vietnam War, the AIDS Crisis, and 9/11 actually have very little influence on forming similarities within a generation. Instead, her premise is that technological change and our society’s response to it is what causes differences between Americans born during various eras. This is a fascinating read that will dispel a lot of myths about generational cohorts and provide some perspective about the cultural, political, and social trends that we are currently seeing in our society.
