“The future demands that we fight for it now”

Suffs is a musical about the leadup to the passage of the 19th amendment, giving (certain) women the right to vote. It follows Alice Paul and, to a lesser extent, Carrie Chapman Catt, as their respective organizations lobby President Wilson to grant women suffrage.
I really enjoyed this soundtrack - there is an inspiring message throughout the musical of “Keep Marching”, that the future you may want will not just happen, it must be worked toward. The song “I Was Here” was another one I really liked, and gave me a sort of Hamilton-esque vibe, in its emphasis on the legacies we create by our actions. Finally, “The March (We Demand Equality)” is a rousing, high-energy tune, the stage version of which features a woman dressed as a Valkyrie on a…let’s call it a horse, shall we? Those three are probably my favorites of the musical, but all of the tracks are worth listening to.
