For readers who like teen movies and 90s romcoms set in high schools.
Written by an absolute star cast of authors, this book was a fascinating premise, expertly executed.
At first I had trouble getting into it-- there are seriously so many characters your head will spin-- but if you can get about a third of the way through you'll really start to catch on. What helps with the characters is that, thanks to multiple authors in a tag-team situation, they each have such a wonderfully unique voice that you learn to differentiate faster than I think any reader would in a book written by a singular person.
And the characters, I loved them. I loved them dearly. They were wonderful, and young, and stupid, and they cared about each other. The party was something otherworldly to be sure, but for all its over-the-top unbelievability, it felt like high school. It felt like the high stakes of feeling like something major is ending, like having your whole life in front of you but not being able to see it, only being able to look back and regret what you didn't do or miss all the wonderful things you did. I loved that.
But most of all, I loved the happy endings.
