Martha wore many hats, serving as a midwife, nurse, and mother. Her community respected her for nurturing the ill, bringing babies into this life, and pursuing justice for those underrepresented. Based on a true story that was recorded in a journal kept by Martha Ballard. The reader added to the dialect that was spoken in the early 18th Century and one could just hear Martha speaking her thoughts from her daily journal entries. Excellent read full of suspense, hope, and heartache at times.
