A civil servant is invited to a secret ministry project, where she learns her job will be to "bridge" assisting and monitoring an "expat," stolen from his own time. The Victorian naval officer is not what she expects, and sparks inevitably appear, even as a conspiracy at the heart of the ministry may mean the project is even more dangerous than she imagined.
