A hilarious but serious memoir

WARNING: This book contains strong language. The author also shares his opinions about difficult topics such as white supremacy, racism, religion, and the current political climate.

Now that I have provided the above disclaimer, I must say this is a creative, cleverly written memoir that is laugh-out-loud hilarious. This book is an eye-opening account of one person’s struggle to reconcile his racial identity between two competing cultures in his head, neither of which he feels totally comfortable with. I think this is an important book because his struggle is emblematic of the difficulties (dealing with microaggressions and feelings of isolation and alienation) that many Americans who are members of racial, ethnic, or religious minority groups often experience. Personally, this book resonated with me because I consider myself to a Blerd (Black + nerd) and am a member of the same age cohort as the author. So, the familiarity of living through the same cultural and historical references made this an enjoyable page turner for me.
