Godzilla Minus One

More than "just" a monster movie

I was a little skeptical before I watched this movie, but I can say without reservation that it deserves all the accolades it has received. 

As exciting as the Godzilla-centric scenes are, this movie is much deeper than a mere "monster movie." It touches upon themes of shame and trauma in the wake of Japan's loss in World War II. It's about people (yes, PEOPLE!) trying to rebuild their lives and find a place in an uncertain world--and attempting to defeat the giant reptilian [Atomic metaphor] monster Godzilla.
