A Chat with MSU President Samuel Stanley
Our discussion with Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., President of Michigan State University includes student safety, a partnership with Apple and the book, Gods of the Upper Air by Charles King and more.
Here are some highlights:
Safety
A survey was released to about 60,000 individuals and completed by about 33,000 before the vaccine mandate. This survey showed that about 93% of faculty and about 87.5% of students were vaccinated.
A few safety measures:
- Mandate for vaccinations for all students, faculty, and staff
- Exceptions for the vaccine mandate for medical and religious reasons
- Indoor mask mandate
Thank in part to the safety measures being taken, campus life is expected to look much like it did pre-pandemic. Students will have the opportunity to interact with their neighborhoods, make those connections and have that support system.
Partnerships
- Collaborating with Henry Ford Healthcare System on education, research and clinical care.
- Partnering with Apple Developer Academy to offer students a unique coding experience.
"Student success is at the top of our strategic plan. Every student we accept we believe should graduate, and not only graduate but find a rewarding career afterwards." - Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., President of Michigan State University
