An interesting overview of a major mental health issue from a very personal perspective
Approximately 40 million Americans suffer from problems associated with chronic anxiety. Author Scott Stossel is one of them. In fact he suffers from a laundry list of anxiety disorders including panic attacks, separation anxiety, fear of public speaking, fear of flying, and emetophobia - the fear of vomiting.
Stossel provides readers with background information on anxiety and its related disorders, from a historical perspective. He also examines the causes and treatments associated with these disorders. This is all presented through the lens of his own personal difficulties with anxiety.
His story will provide hope for those who suffer from anxiety. Stossel has a positive attitude and is at times humorous. Despite suffering with many of these issues since childhood, he leads a relatively normal life. He is married, has children and is successful in his career. Overall this book is a fascinating read for those interested in psychology.
