Unbelievable animation
I want to start by saying I’m not a huge Spiderman fan (although my spouse is and they can vouch for this film!), but I want to rave about this movie anyway!
The animation is wild. It’s so unbelievably beautiful and at times, heart wrenchingly drawn and rendered. The variety of styles and nuance at play in this one blew me out of whatever pond the first film had blown me into; I could not believe they managed to actually surpass what they’d achieved in the first film.
Straight visuals aside, I should mention that the visual storytelling in this movie is also not something to ignore. Although I’m not exceedingly well-versed in Spiderman lore (I have seen most of the films, so I suppose that’s something), I thought the story was engaging and poignant, but had enough lighthearted moments not to bring the film down. You may feel things when you watch it though – fair warning!
If you are a spiderman fan, perhaps you have already seen this film, but if you were on the fence, I would urge you to give it a try.
For others, if you love art, if you love animation, if you just like pretty colors that move to a great soundscape and tell a compelling story, go watch this film.
