This is the second book featuring Detective Kaga by Keigo Higashino. He is a dedicated investigator, interested in all the people affected by the incident.  He states that this is part of his duties, "finding ways to comfort them is also part of my job". He tries to understand all the aspects of the case so he can understand the reasoning or what problems led to this outcome. "Unless we can identify the cause, there’s nothing to stop someone else from making the same mistake". I listened to Newcomer as an e-Audiobook, the story moves along at a moderate pace as Detective Kaga investigates and tries to make sense of all the information pertaining to the crime.
