Sorrows is right...
I can promise you a satisfying and bittersweet ending, but the way Craig builds characters you get attached to and want to know more about and then suddenly rips them from you is almost vicious. The atmosphere of the book is dreamy and gives kind of Secret of Moonacre (2008) vibes but much, much sadder. The mystery is fun, but not like mysteries full of clues are fun. It's fun because you have nothing at all to go on, so you just have to be along for the ride. Each chapter creates a little more suspense, adds something else to mourn, makes you feel like you're going just that little bit more crazy along with main character Annaleigh. Until the brutal and unrelenting conclusion, and the surprisingly soft last chapter.
I recommend this book for readers 14 and older who like fantasy with a touch of romance, and don't mind an aspect of psychological thriller.
